Using the DSS VPN with iOS or Android

The DSS VPN services works with current generation iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices.

Notes

  • When your device is connected to the VPN, ALL network traffic is routed through the VPN, meaning that it is routed through UC Davis. This may reduce the performance of your device for network-intensive tasks like video streaming.
  • Being connected to the VPN may use your batter more quickly than usual, so you may want to disconnect when you are not actively using VPN services.

How to Connect to the VPN for the First Time

  1. Search for and install the "OpenVPN Connect" app from the Google Play App Store or the Apple App Store
  2. Open the OpenVPN Connect app.
  3. Open the menu for the app.
  4. Select Import.
  5. Select Import Access Server Profile.
  6. For the Access Server Hostname, input: vpn.dss.ucdavis.edu
  7. For the username and password, provide your UC Davis computing account username and Kerberos passphrase.
  8. FOR DEVICES THAT ARE NOT SHARED ONLY: Select "Import autologin profile." This option will allow you to connect to the VPN without re-entering your password. You should only select this option on devices that you do not share--even with family members. Remember that you are personally responsible for any network access that occurs under your UC Davis account.
  9. Select Import Profile.
  10. Click Connect to connect to the VPN.
